Thirteen year old Jessica thinks she just hit the jackpot. The most popular boy in her middle-school, Eric, just became her boyfriend and now she’s finally in the ‘it’ crowd. At first the relationship is like a dream come true but it quickly turns into a nightmare when Eric becomes abusive, controlling and sexually violates Jessica. Unable to understand how someone could say I love you and the next minute treats you like someone they hate, Jessica gets sucked into the abusive behavior and loses herself completely to it.

I can definitely say that this story felt real, but the ending was lacking. I assume the author was attempting to give us a look into the world of abuse and the mind of the victim. In that sense, the portrayal is very accurate. Victims do tend to blame themselves and do make the mistake of failing to speak up. However, the last few chapters leave the reader with a bitter taste in their mouth. This was probably done to let us know how bleak this type of situation can seem and encourage us to take some sort of action. Unfortunately it doesn't accomplish that goal. Why? Because the protagonist (our hero) failed to take action. She failed to report the abuse to the proper authorities, or even to tell her mom or best friend(who repeatedly asked about it!) When the dire time comes to really call out for help, she seeks comfort from the one character LEAST likely to give it to her! I don't know if this forced, so that the author could write a longer book or if the character really was dumb enough to believe that character would come to her aid. My guess is, it was a forced attempt to mention that many people mistakenly believe rape only happens between strangers.
There are better ways to bring attention to such issues. If someone tells you for instance "only strangers can steal from you and it be a REAL theft" you may believe them but only if you have never been robbed by a friend. If you had indeed been recently robbed by a friend, you'd say "BULL! My friend stole something from me just yesterday!" It's only common sense. Having a character lacking such basic common sense really detracts from the story and character development.
I might add also that there isn't character development. I would have liked to see the protagonist learn from her mistakes and begin to gradually stick up for herself and better her life. Instead we get a rushed ending where she FINALLY does something but then slinks back into her silent ways, watching the abuser continue to thrive. It's really bizarre.
Don't give us a "hero" who quietly watches an abuser continue to abuse. Give us a hero who stands up not only for herself but for OTHERS as well. That is the type of hero who calls us to action!

Unlovable eBook Choice Jane Doe S Braswell Reviews
This book kept me wanting to continue reading non-stop, it is very informative to those teenage girls that believe they ar old enough to handle anything. In fact it is because of their immature beliefs that makes teenagers make all the stupid mistakes they do. In my opinion, parents need to be more involved with their teens. That's what this book taught me, have a good relationship with your child and trust and love will help make better decisions for a struggling teen.
Unlovable is truly a book that will change lives. It changed mine that much I can tell you. I was so into the book that I felt what Jessica felt an I to also believed it was her/my fault. This book should be a book that everyone knows about and reads, for even if they don't love it by the end they will have gained a valuable life lesson.
This shows a really good understanding about what someone go through from the process of being physically abused and being raped and having your family torn apart from you. It tells you what and what not to do. Personally what got me reading the was the sentience 'he looked like a freckin ken doll.' I am happy I c ontinued reading though.I just wished this book was longer it was unrealistic but it does happen. What I didn't understand was jessicas boyfriend drank alcohol and had intercourse with Jessica like shes only 13 if I were Jessica I would send him out like seriously and he touched her bust while at a mcdonalds when he was drunk on a ischool day. It was a bit confusing book but loved it. Best book I read so far. I would recommend it. But its too short wish it was longer!
Since this book was in the POV of a 13 year old, I prepared myself to become agitated because authors usually go way overbored when trying to create the teenage girl character. Surprisingly the character was tolerable, and I found the story really easy to keep along with and could imagine what a character looked like, their mannerisms, etc. The only problem is how unrealistic the book is. In this book, all these 13 year olds are sex crazy and are in love with a boy after two dates and think that having sex is priority number one. While that's true with *some* teenagers, definitely not with 13 year olds. But otherwise the book was great!
Jessica is a 13 year old girl whose parents divorced and is now getting into the dating world. I liked this book but I found it somewhat unrealistic. Like why would a mother let her 13 year old daughterbstay out until 2 in the morning without calling the cops or why would Jessica be able to leave the school so easily after being bruised up so bad and a teacher not doing anything about it? Also the partying and drinking her and her boyfriend did made me think of 17 yr olds not 13 yr olds not even in high school. I did like this book don't get me wrong I just think it could have had more depth and felt the book ended to quickly.
First of all, I've never wanted to physically attack a character as much as I wanted to Eric Tomlin! Hayden too. Though overall believable this book left something to be desired. It's a brief telling of a 13 year olds first love. It's an abusive love and a story with sex, drugs, drinking, peer pressure and rape. Yes RAPE! I'd like to strongly stress that word to any young people reading. RAPE is rape. It doesn't only happen by strange men in alleys. It doesn't matter if it's your best friend if you say no it is rape. It doesn't matter if it's your boyfriend and you two got naked and got in bed and he crawled between your legs. Once you say NO and he/she doesn't stop it is rape. Anyway the book wasn't bad just lacking in believability in parts and lacking character development. However having been in abusive relationship I could relate to the fear of missing phone calls or him thinking being in the room with another male constitutes cheating and shutting out everyone but him. I have the book three stars because it is a good short piece. It's flaws are outweighed by the books intentions. I apologize for the abrupt writing of this review and it's strange wording my tablet is bring quite difficult!!!
